Products for Apple iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
The Signal Flags products were a year in development, requiring research into a variety of U.S. government publications and other sources such as USNI's "Watch Officer's Guide", and ISAF's "Racing Rules of Sailing" along with our own knowledge based on education and experience in the U.S. Navy. The goal was to create a comprehensive reference that would provide a depth of information, as well as a tool that could be used anywhere for recognizing/memorizing the flags. Much time was spent in building a database of information, and then in developing the software to extract and display the data. Several approaches to the quiz functionality were tried before the final implementation was achieved. We decided to publish the app in 3 versions, providing Signal Flags as the most comprehensive source, Signal Flags International to focus mostly on the International Code flags, and Signal Flags Info to provide a free source of International Code information as a service to the seagoing community. We are committed to keeping these apps up to date with current information as well as updating them incrementally to take advantage of the ever-changing technology base; since their introduction in late February 2010, twelve updates have been released to provide enhancements such as iPad-specific support and expanded capabilities for the International and Info versions. Additional capabilities are currently in design and development.

These products are suitable for all computing platforms, including desktop and mobile devices. They are documents in pdf format to which we have added navigational links, and are viewable within any desktop or mobile device browser, and by an assortment of mobie device apps such as Apple's iBooks® or GoodReader for iPad.
